This pool pavilion in Fort Myers, Florida was designed and built by first-time timber framer Kraig Shepka, using southern pine throughout the frame. The project is based on our 14×18 timber frame plan, adapted to serve as an outdoor pavilion suited to Florida’s climate.
As an initial timber framing effort, the project reflects a hands-on approach to learning traditional joinery and layout while working at a manageable scale. Southern yellow pine provided an accessible and practical material choice, allowing the frame to come together with clean lines and solid proportions.
Photographed by Kraig Shepka, the completed pavilion stands as a successful first build, demonstrating how a standard timber frame plan can be used as a foundation for gaining experience and confidence in timber framing while creating a functional and attractive outdoor structure.
I hope and pray for the safety for all of those in the Fort Myers’s area along with those nearby during Hurricane Ian. It would be interesting to see how well the pavilion holds up through the storm.
We feel for those affected in the devastated areas. We certainly hope Kraig Shepka is safe.
