Rothoblaas Lewis Ship Auger Bits – Deep Drilling for Timber and Hardwood

Drilling deep, clean holes through thick timber requires a bit built for the job. The Rothoblaas Lewis ship auger bit is a professional-grade twist drill designed specifically for deep drilling in softwood and European hardwoods — including the demanding applications timber framers face daily.

Built from WS-grade alloy steel with a threaded self-feeding tip, the Lewis pulls itself through the material without requiring excessive downward pressure. The round-section twist flute efficiently clears chips from deep holes, preventing clogging and keeping the bore clean through the full depth of cut.

What sets the Lewis apart from standard ship augers:
  • Threaded self-feeding tip — draws the bit through wood automatically, reducing operator fatigue on long passes
  • High-quality main cutting edge with roughing tooth — clean entry, fast chip removal, reduced blowout
  • Round-section twist flute — optimized for deep holes where chip evacuation matters most
  • WS alloy steel construction — tool-grade alloy steel, not generic carbon steel
  • Hex shank — quick-change compatible with standard 7/16″ chuck systems
  • 18-1/8″ total length — deep enough for most structural through-timber applications without an extension

A Rothoblaas professional tool manufactured in Europe to precise inch tolerances.
