Take a look at these gazebo plans! The 12x12 timber frame is a petite but very artistic structure that will beautify any outdoor space. The geometry of the collar ties and hips connecting to the central kingpin will make you want to hang out in this gazebo for hours! Though the frame is small enough to fit in even a modest backyard, the 8 in 12 pitch hip roof with its jack rafters give this gazebo a great sense of distinction.
The drawing set includes plan views, elevations, section drawings, and individual piece drawings. They include all the piece and joinery details you will need to build this frame, along with a complete timber list and fastener schedule. We include 3d renderings and even x-ray views to show you all the details to help you visualize and cut the frame. We include pages of dimensioned piece drawings showing every cut on each timber.

The culmination of this meticulous process is a comprehensive set of construction drawings. These detailed plans not only provide a clear guide for your kit's assembly but also include a complete list of timbers and fasteners, serving as an invaluable reference throughout the installation of your frame. Our goal is to ensure that every step, from initial design to final construction, is seamless, transparent, and perfectly aligned with your project's needs.
After we've collaboratively chosen the ideal wood type for your project, we proceed to source the highest quality timber through our network of trusted mills. Following the cutting process, all timbers are systematically labeled according to the production numbers assigned during the creation of your model and plans. This meticulous process ensures that every component of your timber frame is prepared with the utmost attention to detail, ready for the next phase of your project.
Included with your package are all the pegs, fasteners, screws, and connectors you need to put your ready-to-raise frame together. You will also get a detailed list for you to refer to while raising your frame.
We carefully package and securely transport your timber frame and all necessary hardware directly to your location. Is it 12×12 post to post or roof edg to roof edg
It is 12×12 outside of post to outside of post with a 2′ overhang on all four sides.
hi guys .. I want to know .. the measuring (12×12) which used here is feet or inches?
It is 12 feet x 12 feet.
In the provided picture, how high is the peak and what are the lengths of the vertical posts?
Bill, the peak is 13′-3 1/2″. The top of the plate is 8′-10″ but we call for 8-6 1/4″ actual length on the posts (10′ lumber if you want room to maneuver to get prime material)
I like this design, and want to add OSB and a metal roof. Any issues?
No issues, mot people put down a layer of 3/4″ tongue and groove boards so when you look up you see that, then a layer of OSB/plywood to get the thickness for the screws of the metal roof. You can also use 1x or 2×4’s as purlins on top of the rafters and screw the metal roof to that.
Hi there, would you have this gazebo design in 12×16? Thanks
No, but, it can be modified with some custom design work. If you head to https://timberframehq.com/custom-design/ you can learn about what we offer, the process and fill out a brief questionnaire that sets you up for a preliminary kickoff call.
Hi, I am trying to establish a cost to build this gazebo. Can you tell me how many board feet are in the plan?
I am using a sawmill who prices everything by board feet.
Stephen, we will email you the timber list.
I have some timbers in stock of various dimensions that I would like to use to build this gazebo, but I know I need more.
Can you send me the timber list so I can get the required extras sawn?
Robert, we will email you the timber list
I am looking for a 12×12 like this but I need a Cupola to vent smoke from my bbq pit.
You guys have anything like this?
Charles, we don’y designs with a cupola but we can certainly add it- check out our Custom Design services here.
I am looking for this plan in 14×14. Can I just buy this one and scale or it would need some custom work?
Vik, we would not recommend just scaling the plan- we do offer custom design services here and could adapt it for you.
Design looks great, are the dimensions in metric or imperial? Am in Scotland everything is metric here.
Our dimensions are in Imperial- there are several online conversion tools, however.
Can you tell me the level of expertise you suggest for this build. Could the average person follow your plans and build to a satisfactory standard?
Also what tools would be required to do all of the joints etc?
Lastly can you give an approximate amount of timber required?
Shaun, this plan is small so that makes it a pretty good choice for an “average person”. The hip roof does add some complexity, however. You might want to check out this article as far as what tools are recommended.
I’m just getting started on this gazebo. Is there a chat group of people also working on it or those that have completed it? I’ve already found one angle I can’t determine from the plans. Angke to cut Outside end of hip rafter?
What grade and type of lumber is your design based on ??
Spruce , Pine , Cedar ???
It is not designed with one specific one in mind. All of those species you mentioned will work. Check out the article at https://timberframehq.com/timber-framing-101/timber-species/ for more help on choosing a species.
This is exactly the type of gazebo I am looking to build and already have four concrete footings poured in ( would use brackets on top of concrete to secure the posts). However, I have the posts positioned about 14″ from the property line which is permitted I’m Ontario) and cannot have the 2′ overhang. Can this be adjusted to 10″ or so in order to ensure the roof and the water coming down stays on my side? Could you please email me the timber list so I can cost the materials out? Thanks
It would be quite easy to adjust the overhang to your requirements. You would just need to cut them off, that would have no adverse effects on the frame.
Is this available as a kit that can be purchased all precut?
Yes, you can find out more information on our kits here.
I would like a lumber list so i can price the cost to build with todays price.
James, that plan takes 1638 board feet. You need to purchase the plan to obtain the full timber list. Keep in mind, though, we offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If the material costs more than you want to spend, we will refund your purchase price within 30 days.
Hi, are the posts 8 ‘’ x 8 ‘’?
Thanks
Yes, they are
I would like to build this in a 10 x 10 with 6 x 6 posts. What is the cost to modify the plan?
Please go to our Custom Design page and fill out this form. That’s the best way to get in touch with our designers and get an estimate for your project.
Is there a way to vent the roof?
No, there is not a need to vent the timber frame space. The roof is another matter. It is best to create a air gap between the final roof and the T&G. That will also give you a space to run and wires for lighting.
I’m debating between buying a big box store pavilion or building one from your plans. Could you email a timber list?
Thanks!
We do not give out the timber list directly to folks anymore. You can head to https://timberframehq.com/shop/12×12-timber-frame-gazebo-plan/ and look in the Specification Tab to get that information.
