The design of this 24x36 Gambrel Barn Home plan maximizes every ounce of square footage! The frame gets its name from the characteristic dual roof pitches. Along with ample headroom down the center, you'll find plenty of storage space outside of the loft posts. A large dormer on the side brings lots of natural light into the second level. The queen post trusses allow for plenty of windows on the gambrel ends, providing a bright and open feel. The shed roof area along the other side of the ground level can be used as a porch or enclosed for additional square footage.
Our Ready-to-Raise™ kits make building this beautiful structure straightforward and enjoyable. Each kit includes precision-cut timbers, all necessary fasteners, and clear, easy-to-follow instructions. This ensures that your building process is smooth and efficient, allowing you to focus on bringing your vision to life.

What's Included

We take immense pride in our team of exceptionally skilled timber frame designers. Each member is not only equipped with the finest tools but also possesses a profound understanding of how different materials intricately come together to realize your vision. This deep expertise in both design and material synergy is crucial in crafting the ideal timber frame structure tailored just for you.
Our commitment to excellence extends to our engineering team, specialists in timber frame structures, many of whom hold doctorates in their field. Sharing your passion for timber framing, our engineers work closely with you, ensuring that every aspect of the frame's design is customized to suit your specific location. This collaborative process guarantees that you receive all necessary documentation for permits, including detailed engineered reaction diagrams, ensuring your construction proceeds smoothly and stays on schedule.
The culmination of this meticulous process is a comprehensive set of construction drawings. These detailed plans not only provide a clear guide for your kit's assembly but also include a complete list of timbers and fasteners, serving as an invaluable reference throughout the installation of your frame. Our goal is to ensure that every step, from initial design to final construction, is seamless, transparent, and perfectly aligned with your project's needs.
After we've collaboratively chosen the ideal wood type for your project, we proceed to source the highest quality timber through our network of trusted mills. Ensuring that every piece meets our exacting standards, we then transport the timber to one of our cutting facilities. There, the joinery is meticulously crafted using CNC machines. Every joint, drilling, mortise, and tenon is cut with precision, adhering to tight tolerances for impeccable quality and fit.
Following the cutting process, all timbers are systematically labeled according to the production numbers assigned during the creation of your model and plans. This meticulous process ensures that every component of your timber frame is prepared with the utmost attention to detail, ready for the next phase of your project.
Included with your package are all the pegs, fasteners, screws, and connectors you need to put your ready-to-raise frame together. You will also get a detailed list for you to refer to while raising your frame.
We carefully package and securely transport your timber frame and all necessary hardware directly to your location. In sync with you, we'll coordinate the delivery schedule, ensuring that we agree on an approximate time on the designated date. To facilitate a smooth and safe unloading process, it's important to have equipment on hand capable of lifting up to 5,000 lbs. Once everything is delivered and in place, the exciting phase of bringing your project to life begins.

This frame is SO good looking!
I really would like to build one, but the building code in my area sets a maximum height of 21′ 4″ so I would either have to make a lower first floor, or reduce the gambrel both of which would disturb the nice proportions of the building.
Could you program make it 5 or 10% smaller? that way it would still be possible to build according to plans instead of manually doing it and risking to mess up several times.

Jonas
Thank you for your comments on this frame. If you are interested in us adjusting it for you, please visit our custom design page and fill out the questionnaire.
Are you able to convert the measurements to the metric system?
Thank you!
Liz
Liz, we don’t have that one in metric at the moment. We are happy to convert it for you. I will send you an email to start that process with you.
is the total footprint 24×36? or is that the footprint of the gambrel barn excluding the shed roof?
That plan come in two versions: one to accept your wall cladding and fit on a 24×36 foundation, and one without cladding. The one without measures 24’x36′ from outside to outside of the posts PLUS 12′ for the shed area. The one designed for cladding measures 22′-11 3/4″ x 34′-11 3/4″ outside of the posts PLUS 12′-6 1/8″ for the shed.
Do you have drawings for basement / slab requirement
Not in the stock set, but we can add that with our custom design service.
How many board feet of lumber is in this frame?
Is this kit only for the timber frame?
The calculator is for the mortise and tenon kit. When the CNC cuts the joinery for you, it makes a lot of sense to stick with M&T rather than paying for all of the additional hardware and labor associated with doing it as a post and beam.
Does the timber frame kit, include the siding, and the roof, and the windows? That I can see in the picture. Or is it Only the precut timber?
Plane clear english please.
Just the timber frame kit.
Is the lumber green or kiln dried?
Patrick, this is a plan and not the actual home, although we can sell you a pre-cut kit for it. Our kits are generally green timbers unless you choose to pay for kiln-dried.
