In most instances, timbers and other materials can be sourced locally. In some cases, you can even select certain standing trees from your building site to use in the construction of your home. Some homeowners choose to recycle existing timbers. This can prove beneficial for your structure, since salvaged timbers have gone through a curing process and they maintain their shape for the life of the structure. Also, you’re recycling! Doing so can earn you credits toward LEED certification, if that’s something you’re interested in.
