The steeper sides of the gambrel roof provide extra storage and living space on the second level, creating a classic barn-like atmosphere. The attached shed roof area could serve as a spacious sitting porch or enclosed for additional interior space. We've designed floor joists in the gambrel area for a full second level, including a shed dormer for more headroom and plenty of natural light. You can add numerous windows on the first level, and the queen post framing on the gambrel ends.
Our timber frame kits, pre-cut for easy assembly, measure 22'x24' from outside to outside of the posts, plus an additional 12 feet to the shed roof posts. This gives you 1,056 square feet of space plus 480 square feet under the shed roof! The gambrel roof with knee walls and the shed dormer ensure comfortable headroom on the second level.
