SPECIFICATIONS
This 18×24 timber frame pavilion is the perfect size to create a carport, a small guest house, or a deluxe workshop. With 432 square feet under the roof, other uses for this king post design would be for an outdoor kitchen/dining pavilion or a cabin-in-the-woods. The top of the plates are over nine feet high, and at a 6 in 12 pitch, the ridge stands at well over 14 feet tall for a lofty ceiling height. And you can tailor the look of the pavilion to suit your tastes with roof pitch variations from 3 in 12 to 12 in 12. Take your pick!
The pavilion boasts generous two-foot overhangs in a two-bay design. The gable ends utilize two different post layouts for flexibility- place the entry door where it suits you. The sturdy 8x construction makes for a structure that you can be proud of, and that will stand the test of time.,
The plan set is formatted for easy printing at home on 8 ½” x 11” paper. The instant-download PDF drawings consist of 33 sheets, which include 3D renderings, plan, elevation, and sectional drawings, along with all the piece and joinery details you will need to build this frame. What are the timber dimensions for this plan? Thanks
Ian the posts are 8x8s, the girts and plates are 8x10s and the rafters are 6x8s
Could this plan be built with 6×6 throughout?
Not as designed. It can utilize 6x material but not all of them would be able to be 6×6’s
Is the extra post in the middle necessary?
No it can be omitted.
Are the post to the ground on the gable ends required?
Not necessarily, depends on where you are, the tie beam would then support the loads from the roof to the kingpost.
If I omit the post below the king post, would the tie beam need to be bigger? I live in Colorado.
Hi . would a floor plan work with this frame ? thanks
Do you have these plans in metric?
No, these plans are available in Imperial only as stock plans. You could contact our custom design department here to convert them for you (at additional cost).
What’s the square footage of the roof, for estimating roofing material costs?
Thanks!
There are two-foot overhangs all around, beyond the 18×24 footprint.
Is the brace piece required from the king post to the joist
Braces are critical for the strength of the frame. So yes, they are required unless you run that change by an engineer.
