Craftsmanship You Can Show Off
At the core of this carport lies the artistry of traditional timber frame joinery, featuring pegged mortise and tenon in the knee braces, scarf joints in the ridge, and spline joints at the wall girts. The main roof structure is formed by 8×10 principal rafters and 6×6 principal purlins, enhanced with Timberlinx connectors for added strength and clarity of space. This is more than just a functional build—it's a testament to enduring style and expert craftsmanship, a feature you can proudly show off.
Enhance your property with a striking structure that seamlessly blends old-world timber frame techniques with modern efficiency. Do you have a set of drawings for a 24′ x 36′ heavy timber carport ?
We offer this 24×36 Heavy Timber Barn Plan. But stay tuned! We will be coming out with a clear span 24×36 King Post Truss Pavilion in the coming weeks!
I’m considering using this pavilion as the “skeleton” of a straw bale or straw panel house and have some questions…
1. Can the roof purlins be extended to provide more overhang on the building ends?
2. Can the roof rafters be extended to provide more overhang on the sides long sides of the building?
3. Can the building length be extended by adding additional bents?
4. Can your plans be modified to incorporate the aforementioned changes?
Roy, all those modifications are possible. You may want to check out our Custom Design page if you want us to adjust the plans for you.
What is the length of the longest timber?
The bottom chord is the longest timber at 24′
What is the ground to the peak height?
It is 16’9 13/16″ to the top of the ridge
What is the maximum garage door height as per the gable side post? I am interested in the size of heavy timber carport, but need a minimum 12′ clearance.
The height to the bottom of the tie beam on the gable end is 9′-10 1/2″
26X36 heavy Timber Carport;
Can these plans be modified to 24X40 ft?
If so, would the plan require more than 4 posts per side, and would it be possible to use a bottom chord that measures a max of 20 ft
Yes, these plans could be modified. Head to our Custom Design page to find out more, and fill out the questionnaire at the bottom to get in touch with our design team. Only they can answer your question about post quantity and bottom chord.
I would like to know if this plan could be designed to the dimensions of 24′ x 40′?
I would like to know if this plan could be modified to the dimensions of 24′ x 40′.
I am interested in 24×36 wanting to add a 5-7 ft breeze way to my home would need stamped engineered plans not sure if you offfer that
We do take on custom projects -Check out our page, HERE, describing what we offer and the process of our custom design services.
Hello, What are the dimensions between the posts of each bay?
It is 11′-9 1/2″ from center to center of the posts.
I am very interested in this design but need to understand the material costs before I move ahead. I have a sawmill just a few miles from my location and would like to get a material list to them for pricing. Can you provide that?
Also, I am putting this over an existing 24’x24′ pad. Will the inside width dimensions allow stradling the pads without mods?
Khris, we don’t provide material lists until you purchase the plans. We can tell you, though, that this plan requires 4118.5 board feet. Inside of the posts the dimensions are 24′-0 3/4″ x 34′-9″ if your posts are actual 7 1/2×7 1/2.
What specific timber size are you using for the 24 ft bottom chord? Need to know to see if that big guy is available in my area or if I should order it from Timber Frame…
As designed it is a 8×10.
Could this be modified to drop the ridge in plane with the top of the kingpost, and the purlins removed and instead sheath from bent to bent with t&g ? Is this a modification you guys could do?
It can, but we would need to have a built up roof to add structural support or use a 4x roof decking to support the span.
Hello, checking to see if I could have a clear span of 30′ with this design and 12′ height to Rafter Beam.
Thanks – John
We have completed several designs and kits with a 30′ clear span. Reachout to us to get started on your design.
