Are you looking for a great-looking, roomy structure with a clear span uninterrupted by central posts? This 26×36 timber frame carport may just very well fit the bill! With actual measurements of 36’ x 25’ 3 ¾” to the outside of the posts, that makes over 911 square feet of open space for you to utilize as you see fit! You can park two full-size super-duty trucks in this carport while only using 2 of the bays. The third bay would make an excellent enclosure for shop or storage. Or you could park standard-size vehicles and still have room to create enclosed storage in front of them. You might even decide to enclose the frame as a nice-sized cabin retreat.
There is plenty of traditional joinery to boast about in this 26×36 timber frame carport! You’ve got pegged mortise and tenons in the plentiful knee braces, scarf joints in the ridge, and spline joints at the wall girts. All of that joinery makes for a strong frame that you will be proud to show off to your friends and family. 8×10 principal rafters make up the roof structure, along with 6×6 principal purlins. The joinery is augmented with Timberlinx connectors, which helps make the wonderful clearspan space possible.
The plans are available for instant download as soon as you purchase them. They are formatted to 11”x17” so you can easily see all the details. The 11-page construction drawing set includes 3D drawings to visualize the finished project. Then there are dimensioned post and roof plans, elevations, and sections. We give you detailed 3D drawings which make the connections crystal clear. The 24-page piece drawing set provides a 3D exploded view of the frame with every timber labeled. Those labels correspond to the detailed and dimensioned piece drawings, so there is no guesswork in cutting the frame. And we also include a timber list to facilitate budgeting and procuring your materials.

Do you have a set of drawings for a 24′ x 36′ heavy timber carport ?
We offer this 24×36 Heavy Timber Barn Plan. But stay tuned! We will be coming out with a clear span 24×36 King Post Truss Pavilion in the coming weeks!
I’m considering using this pavilion as the “skeleton” of a straw bale or straw panel house and have some questions…
1. Can the roof purlins be extended to provide more overhang on the building ends?
2. Can the roof rafters be extended to provide more overhang on the sides long sides of the building?
3. Can the building length be extended by adding additional bents?
4. Can your plans be modified to incorporate the aforementioned changes?
Roy, all those modifications are possible. You may want to check out our Custom Design page if you want us to adjust the plans for you.
What is the length of the longest timber?
The bottom chord is the longest timber at 24′
What is the ground to the peak height?
It is 16’9 13/16″ to the top of the ridge
What is the maximum garage door height as per the gable side post? I am interested in the size of heavy timber carport, but need a minimum 12′ clearance.
The height to the bottom of the tie beam on the gable end is 9′-10 1/2″
26X36 heavy Timber Carport;
Can these plans be modified to 24X40 ft?
If so, would the plan require more than 4 posts per side, and would it be possible to use a bottom chord that measures a max of 20 ft
Yes, these plans could be modified. Head to our Custom Design page to find out more, and fill out the questionnaire at the bottom to get in touch with our design team. Only they can answer your question about post quantity and bottom chord.
I would like to know if this plan could be designed to the dimensions of 24′ x 40′?

Hello, What are the dimensions between the posts of each bay?
It is 11′-9 1/2″ from center to center of the posts.
I am very interested in this design but need to understand the material costs before I move ahead. I have a sawmill just a few miles from my location and would like to get a material list to them for pricing. Can you provide that?
Also, I am putting this over an existing 24’x24′ pad. Will the inside width dimensions allow stradling the pads without mods?
Khris, we don’t provide material lists until you purchase the plans. We can tell you, though, that this plan requires 4118.5 board feet. Inside of the posts the dimensions are 24′-0 3/4″ x 34′-9″ if your posts are actual 7 1/2×7 1/2.
