  1. This looks awesome!
Is it possible (would it be difficult) to double this up for an 18×24? That would be perfect for my workshop.

  2. That would not be a problem, you would just need to mirror the frame. We are happy to make that adjustment in our custom design dept. or that would be easy to do in your shop.

We do take on custom projects and would like to talk to you further about yours. Check out our page, HERE, describing what we offer and the process of our custom design services.

Fill out the design questionnaire so we can understand your needs. That’s the best way to communicate with our team and get an estimate for design services. With that being said, extending a frame parallel with the ridge is one of the lesser expensive alterations.

  4. What is the roofing sheathing typical for timber frame pavilions? It looks like some kind of 2x material and not plywood. Thank you in advance.

  5. There are many options for roofing your timber frame. If you want to use tongue and groove so it looks amazing from the inside, here is what we recommend:

You can use 3/4″ T&G then put 2×4’s length-wise as a spacer, then put metal roofing straight on the 2x4s and screw them off. If using shingles you will need to add a layer of sheathing to give you the nail base on the 2×4’s. This will also give you space to run any electrical wires.

Alternatively, you can use 2x T&G and put the roofing straight onto that.

Yes it could, it would require quite a bit of custom design. Check out our page, HERE, describing what we offer and the process of our custom design services.

The collar would need to be deeper, how deep depends on the snow load on the roof. However, a 15′ clear span could possibly work. If you would like help with the changes, please check out our Custom Design page.

That would be a custom design. Check out our page, HERE, describing what we offer and the process of our custom design services. Fill out the design questionnaire so we can understand your needs.

  9. do you know what the maximum snow load is for this plan? we get up to 24″ of snow some winters.

  10. Katrina Williams

Roof loads depend on factors like seismic areas, wind load, wind exposure, timber species and more. When in doubt we recommend that you consult an engineer. We do offer engineering services as an add-on to our standard plans. If this is something you are interested in, go to our Custom Design Project Information Form and fill it out to communicate with our team.
