The King Post Truss to Plate Connection is a crucial structural element in timber framing. The bottom chord is joined to the rafter using a traditional mortise and tenon joint at the point where the rafter meets the plate. This precise connection ensures stability and strength in the truss assembly.
The truss is secured to the plate with 3 structural screws with 4" of min. embedment into the plate.
The underside of the rafter features a bird's mouth cut, allowing it to sit securely into the rafter seat, which is carefully housed into the plate. This design provides excellent load transfer and prevents movement, ensuring the truss remains properly aligned over time.
In addition, the plate incorporates a scarf joint, a traditional timber framing technique used to extend the length of the plate while maintaining its structural integrity. This joint allows for seamless alignment and efficient transfer of loads across the plate. The King Post Truss to Plate Connection exemplifies the craftsmanship and engineering that make timber frame structures durable and enduring.
