This 12x16 saltbox uses 4x and 6x material, so it’s easy to find the lumber and it’s also pretty economical to build! This frame has the characteristic asymmetrical saltbox roof, which means one top plate stands higher than the other. You have several options to install cladding and windows to suit your purposes. The common truss design simplifies your work and creates a clean frame. At 192 square feet, this frame would make a great workshop, gardener’s shed or kid’s playhouse!
Common rafters and braces are made with 4x6 lumber. Posts and principle rafters use 6x6 material, and the girts, ridges and top plates use 6x10 timbers. This frame takes 1084 board feet of lumber to build. This 12x16 saltbox measures 12 feet x 16 feet from outside to outside of the posts. There are two foot overhangs on the plate ends. The frame stands 16’-2” to top of rafters, with 8’-2” to the top of the girt, and 7’-4” between the top of the girt and the top of the ridge. The roof pitch is 10:12.
You will receive instant-download links to the plan sets as soon as you make your purchase! The 10-page construction set contains 3D drawings labeled to correspond to the piece drawings. We include post and roof plans, and transverse and longitudinal sections to show you all the parts of the frame. The piece drawing set contains 16 pages that show all the cuts on each timber, fully dimensioned. And then we provide you with timber and connector lists to make buying your materials easier.

Are there any photos of this shed completed? Thanks!
Sorry, there are not.
I have 3.5″ x 7.5″ cedar timbers I’d like to repurpose for this shed. Doable? Also, does this have to be built on a concrete slab?
This plan utilizes 4x6s, 6x6s, 6x10s and 6x12s
