Project Description:
In 2022, after buying plans for the 24’ x 30’ cabin from Timber Frame HQ, I began felling the Douglas Fir trees from my property and worked with a friend with a Woodmizer LT70 to mill the timbers. After spending nearly a year on weekends and evenings working in the shop on the 80ish pieces, I applied for a building permit early in 2024 and began working on the foundation in March. This has been my first timber frame and I was pleased to see that everything fit and it went up relatively smooth over a few days. I was able to raise it all with a roustabout 250 with 4 of us working over a long weekend. I’m having fun and it’s been gratifying to work with local wood right from the building site!

Boy!! It sure is convenient to have Douglas Fir at your disposal on your very own property! A premier wood that most of us could never afford, so have to settle for either white pine (which i used in my small build) or hemlock.
Pretty nice work and a very sweet result. I’d like to build one that size, but I’m getting too far along in my age and don’t have the vigor I once had when I was younger. Maybe one more build? Time will tell. Good work!
Very nice looking and professional timber framing. Douglas fir is the best! Thanks for sharing.
Than you for your comment!
