Project Description:
The Apprenticeshop is a community that cultivates thinkers, makers and doers through traditional boatbuilding and seamanship to navigate an ever-changing world. We offer year-round programs for youth and adults that range from afternoon sailing courses to long-term apprenticeships wooden boat building.
For over 20 years, we have been running a robust youth sailing program for over 300 sailors a season. Some of our students have never been in a boat before while others are deftly honing their racing skills. Boat building apprentices also get out on the water to develop their seamanship skills as a complement to the work they do in the shop. We are happy to welcome people to our waterfront just to walk along our pier, watch boats come and go, explore the intertidal zone, or try out sailing for free during Friday afternoon excursions.
For years, we have needed additional covered program space to support these waterfront activities and recently secured the resources to make it possible. We came across TFHQ and quickly realized this would be the best option to create a handsome and robust structure within our budget.
You can imagine our surprise when, after making our initial deposit, we were informed that Brice, the founder of TFHQ, had been a student at The Apprenticeshop years ago! It seemed like perfect kismet had brought us together again on this important project that will enhance all our waterfront programs.
Thank you, TFHQ, for being part of making this possible for the coming generation of sailors. It was a pleasure to work with you from start to finish.
We're so excited to officially open this new waterfront pavilion with a party on Friday, June 7, 2024.
