Timber Frame HQ’s 10 Year Structural Timber Frame Limited Guarantee

Timber Frame HQ always stands by its work: if a structural problem develops with the structural timber frame that is a direct result of the manufacturing process, we will fix it, subject to the terms and conditions below.

Prior to exercising these guarantee rights, Timber Frame HQ must first determine if the guarantee applies to your situation. Timber Frame HQ will assess the nature of the problem and prepare an appropriate practicable solution. Whether this guarantee applies shall be at our sole and exclusive discretion. Where necessary, we will consult with one of the independent structural engineers, whom we use for their specialist knowledge of timber framing. The extent of the works, and the method that we employ, will be determined by the specific design of your frame. As a valued client you can be assured that we will do all that we reasonably can to minimize the impact of this work and maintain the character of your frame.

This is a limited guarantee, which means that this guarantee does not cover the natural changes that occur in timbers from seasoning. Whilst built to a high standard, using modern techniques, and working to close tolerances, green timbers framing is still a product of a carpentry process, not joinery or cabinetry. We do not consider shakes, checking, knots, twisting, gaps, or other distortions, of a non-structural nature to be a problem and in fact, are part of the appeal of traditionally built timbers frames. Timbers frames are designed to accommodate and restrict this movement to some extent. The bends and twists in the timbers are restrained by the joints, and actually, cause the joints to lock up tighter than they might otherwise do if it had been made from dry timber.

No two pieces of timbers will ever season the same way and each timber frame is unique. Whether realized consciously or not, it is this gentle modulation in shape and form of the timbers as they bend into their final arrangement that gives timbers frame buildings their sought-after character.

If there is going to be some sort of problem we would expect it to become apparent within 6 to 18 months of the frame being erected. The “Timber Frame HQ 10 year Structural Timber Frame Guarantee” is effective from the date of practical completion of the structural timber frame on site. This guarantee is applicable to the structural timber frame, supplied by Timber Frame HQ.

Our guarantee includes the repair or replacement of the identified timber but, as per the original contract, does not allow for the provision of access equipment; enabling works; or making good afterward of fixtures, fittings, and finishes that would be covered by buildings and contents insurance. This guarantee will not apply to damages resulting from acts of God, abuse, negligence, improper handling, and damage resulting from natural causes, such as wood-destroying insects or decay fungus.

Our maximum liability under this warranty is limited to the original purchase price of the defective timber, however, we may choose to replace or provide a suitable substitution of any timber that we determine to be defective and covered under this guarantee.
