We are proud and excited to welcome Moyer Fountain to spearhead our custom design department! Moyer brings a wealth of knowledge, and an expansive background in timber frame construction and design to his position as Lead Designer.

Moyer studied timber framing under a French Compagnon at the American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, SC. His studies included apprenticeships with timber frame builders in the Carolinas’ upstate regions. He went on to receive Valedictorian Honors as a member of the Inaugural class of 2009. Afterwards, he worked along many skilled timber framers and he also designed and built timber frames as a professional timber framer.

We asked Moyer about some of his favorite projects, and he told us about these: “ As a business owner my most satisfying project was designing and building an open air pavilion in uptown Charleston, SC. Its current life quenches the thirst of the local and touring population as a biergarten. I foresee that its structure will take on many different uses as an urban hub in its service lifetime. As part of a team, I have always immensely enjoyed the camaraderie of the community builds that the Mullens spearhead in Lexington
Va.”

Moyer Fountain and Brice Cochran have a proven history of collaborating on design contracts. So Moyer is looking forward to his role as Lead Designer at TFHQ. As he says, “I very much enjoy designing timber frames and other architectural details. I appreciate the company’s attitude of being a resource for those trying to find answers. After a couple of year stint of project managing custom homes, it is nice to be back along with friends and colleagues in the timber frame network. I think there are great possibilities and endless opportunities to promote timber framing here at TFHQ.”

Moyer believes that when helping clients who are often unfamiliar with the timber frame system, some of the important qualities he can offer are patience and a willingness to explain and educate.

When he is not designing timber frames, Moyer enjoys playing sports and teaching his 7 year old son, occasionally chasing a little white ball around the course with friends, cooking, and quiet evenings with his wife.

Thanks! The barn is privately owned down in the Lowcountry of SC. I’m a big fan of X-bracing too.

  4. Hello,
I’d like to know if you could make your Wood Storage Shed as a kit and if so about how much would it cost to fabricate and ship?
