12×24 Pergola Plan

12x24-timber-frame-pergola-plan-isometric

This 12×24 pergola plan has such versatile proportions! The area in each bent is roughly 12×12, so one bay could house a dining area and the other a conversation grouping. Or use both bays as one large dining area – you could have seating for up to twenty people!  Add this onto the side of your home for indoor/outdoor living, or use it as a standalone structure, such as a pool cabana.

With a flat roof pitch and only two bays, this is a relatively simple and easy structure to build for its size. Yet with the exposed rafters, graceful mortise, and tenon knee braces, you will have all the charm factor a timber frame provides. This 12×24 Pergola Plan is simple to cut and would do a great DIY project.

The plan set contains 17 sheets in a multi-sheet pdf that prints on 8.5″x11″ and includes piece drawings for all the parts in the frame.  We have also included some blown-up isometric drawings to help you visualize the joinery better. The drawings are formatted in PDF for instant download, ready to run off your home printer.

Since the roof is flat, with no pitch, you would need to be aware of rain and snow loads. Usually, a pitched roof is recommended when a cover is desired.

  2. Thank you for the reply. What design can you suggest that can accommodate a cover with these similar dimensions?

  3. Hello, I am looking for plans with the same dimensions bit slightly different. One bay of the pergola 2” taller and the rafters 90 degrees to the lower bay. Is this something you could provide?

  4. We don’t have a plan like that currently. I do think it will be easy to covert this one, would be more than happy to share other joinery details to fill in the blanks.

  5. I would appreciate any joinery that you could share. What is the best way to move forward with this?

    Scott

  6. Hello Brice, I would love to buy some plans from you with the slight modifications I mentioned above. Is this a service you provide?

  7. Hi Brice,

In this case (or in any case of building a pergola with a rafters that are perpendicular to the posts) are you notching the main beams, the rafters or both?

    Thanks!

  8. We have the notch in the plates but you can easily switch it up and have them in the rafters. We thought it would be easier to condense the bulk of the joinery you need to cut out of the plates. Will save a little time.

  9. Can you extend the size on these plans? I am looking for some plans on an existing patio space which is around 16×24. Would you be able to extend the width to accommodate this size.

  10. Good day Brice, I am still interested in getting some plans from you with a slight modification of the pergola plans above. Would you be able to provide these? Thank you. Scott

Yes, we can certainly produce a kit for you. Please go to our kit page for more information, an estimator AND to communicate with our team!

  12. Could this plan be used as the bottom level of a 2 story deck next to a house but not attached to the house? Or is there a different plan that would be better?

  13. We would not be able to recommend it for that purpose as-is. But we could adapt it for you through our custom design services. You can find out more about them here.
